Sri Lankan citizens can now interact with representatives of Parliament and submit their petitions or grievances, with Parliament going online with the Information and communication Technology Agency (ICTA)'s trilingual website.

The test version of the Sinhala and Tamil websites were hosted online from May 12 and will be officially launched by the Speaker today, an ICTA press release said.

With the new move, people can access Parliamentary information such as Hansards, committee papers and agendas online, ICTA Project Manager Thusha Mukunthan said.

"This is a tremendous and remarkable achievement for the Parliament and ICTA as only a few Government trilingual websites offer information in a very comprehensive manner," ICTA Chief Operating Officer Reshan Dewapura said.

"The Parliament Website is the biggest, most dynamic and interactive trilingual Sri Lankan website," he added.

Another benefit of this website, www.parliament.lk is that the members and parliament staff can login to their personalized area and make use of the system to publish material for public use and access the published documents. Even a citizen from a remote village can access parliamentary information via a Nenasala-Rural Tele Centre which is the ultimate goal of this achievement, the release said.

The ICTA has already set up over 500 'Nenasalas' - Rural information centres to empower rural communities with ICT.
