Event Description

Welcome to the 16th Eastern Africa Resource Mobilization Workshop - the premier regional event for fundraising professionals. This year’s event will be held from Monday 30th November to Friday 4th December 2009 at the Kenyan coast. This 5 day forum consists of a web of inspirational plenary sessions, practical skills development workshops and break-out sessions all designed to strengthen the capacity of development organizations to mobilize resources.

In the midst of a global financial crisis and with the fundraising environment becoming increasingly competitive, many organizations are perplexed on where and how to seek and mobilize resources. As traditional “donor based” fundraising sources become more difficult to tap --with budgets being redirected, corporate sources melt in the wake of declining sales and diaspora sources dwindle with increasing unemployment – where can organizations turn? Are there any lessons we can learn from the private sector? What about successful non- profits? This workshop is about arming you with the skills and know-how required to compete in an increasing difficult resource mobilization market and coming out on top. It will be a practical and down to earth workshop that focuses on what works and what does not. It will reveal the myths of fundraising and unravel some of the things that have bogged down your resource mobilization attempts over the years.

Resource mobilization does not start with a proposal and end with money – there is much more to it. In seeking the path of the fundraising guru, the workshop will share with you the discipline – the techniques that separate the best fundraisers from the rest. Every prosperous organization has a great fundraiser backed by cultures, values and systems that ensure success. Have you been struggling with fundraisers, come and learn the ways guru!

The forum will facilitate the sharing of resource mobilization strategies, ideas, experiences and new product innovations at play both regionally and internationally. It will break new ground and meet emerging needs in a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive fundraising environment. Organizations will be able to network with other regional and international ones at workshops as well as more relaxed social forums. The forum will capitalize on the experiences and expertise of leading regional facilitators.

It does not end there. Fundraising Clinics have been introduced to deal with those burning questions that you may still want answered by the end of the workshop. The “doctors on call” will be the participants who will use their expertise from the school of “hard knocks” to treat any problems you may have. Facilitators will be allowed to participate, but as part of the audience!

The workshop will take place on the serene and pristine beaches of Mombasa, Kenya – away from the often stressful hustle and bustle of city life. In the company of fundraisers from 15 or so countries, and from all sectors, you will be able to share and consult, tap great minds, benefit from decades of experience and map your way to prosperity. You will leave refreshed, empowered by new ideas and ready to tackle 2010 with gusto. Furthermore, you will have a precious network of professional colleagues you can consult when you need that “willing ear”. You will leave with a different world view of our times - inspired and challenged to higher levels. Will you join us?
