NAYSIS 2010 DOCUMENT

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

1. Hugtech Information Links (HIL) is Information and Communication Technology (ICT) organization concerned with addressing the peculiar problems confronting the Nigeria Information Society.

2. It purses this goal through the articulation and advocacy of policies and practices that would ensure the building of the Information Society in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions of learning.

3. Following on-going dialogue and consultation with the stakeholders in the Information Society in the Nigeria, our organisation therefore proposes as the focus of this maiden edition of its annual summit series, the theme: “Connecting the Nigerian Youth to the Mobile broadband Internet ”

The one–day summit christened National Youth Summit on the Information Society (NAYSIS 2010) has been slated to hold at University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) on May 10th - 17th 2010.

4. The event is billed to attract national and internationally renowned ICT intellectual as resource persons as well as involve a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the Information Society based within and outside the country.

5. The need and essence of the proposed summit include:

· Detailing the various impediments facing the efforts to build information society in Nigeria’s tertiary education.

· X-raying the causes of problems of Information Society in Nigeria’s tertiary education.

· Setting of achievable targets, development of appropriate response and proactive approaches for tackling the problems of information society in Nigeria’s tertiary education.

· Framing of a realistic action–plan and the empanelling of competent committee for actualizing the action-plan.

· Marking the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD)

· Formulating awareness and consensus on the issues underlying the theme of the information Societies, Digital Divide and ICT4D.

The Hugtech`s NAYSIS 2010 is, therefore, instructive for channeling the efforts of stakeholders towards building the Information Society in Nigeria’s tertiary education, hence should be supported by stakeholders and organisations of goodwill.

7. The event shall also be use to promote and recognize men and organisation that have contributed in building Information Society in Nigeria’s tertiary education through special recognition and merit awards to deserving men and organisation for their outstanding achievements/ contributions to the building of the Information Society in Nigeria’s tertiary education levels.

The estimated cost of HIL`s Summit is about N40 million which is expected to be source from contributions/sponsorships from individuals, groups, organisation, companies, interested in the promotion of Information Society in the country’s tertiary institutions of learning.
