Hello Ranjan, ICT can be utilized for growth and development in many ways. However, this depends on the utilization and compatibility of a particular community. For instance telecentres; these can promote development in rural and poor villages because they cater for interests of a group of people and not individuals.
Telecentres that package information and campaigns vital for promoting development in their villages have witnessed this. If you read through most of the blogs posted on this site, you will find numerous testimonies from various parts of the world.
Mobile phones are gaining massive popularity in Africa for instance. These have internet services where one can easily access lots of information ranging from health, education, agriculture, commerce e.t.c
M banking has also been introduced in Uganda and Kenya for instance where all kinds of people have cashless purchasing power unlike before.
The internet has also been another miracle in today's world. On the net today, people can acquire health facilities, it's also acting as a travel replacement since people can choose to work from home an d not travel to the office, one can also shop on line and all these are good signs of development.
The list is endless but am hoping my contribution will be of help.
Thanks for your reply ,
Sandra i have one doubt, i don't know about your rural area or village might be same but in our country villagers have agriculture field my question is, Who will do agriculture if every body seeking job in village. What about field what would be future of agriculture?
Hi, in my country ( uganda) ICTs are used in promoting development in agriculture in many ways. One of the community members i.e Bod Kibirango shared this. You can read this blog, it will give you an in sight.
Hi Ranjan,
If ICTs are being used to gain 21st century skills in the villages, that doesn't mean that everybody will be going after jobs. The same ICTs can be used to access information related to agriculture. Here the advantage is that the farmers will be able to access relevant information in real time, i.e., they don't have to wait for days to get a solution. It can be available in real time and that too with the help of experts. Right now, some organisations are collaborating with agricultural universities and implementing it on a pilot basis. In due course, it can become a reality for all.
I think that, Information Technology and Communication can develop village. They are a veritable vehicle for development of a village. I give you a concrete example: In a village a few kilometers from Bamako (Mali), and also an area of production of mangoes. In this village mangoes rotting under the trees. But thanks to ICTs, they can contact customers from around the world to talk about their products. This is very important.
Hi Prakash
You have asked a short question with many long answers.
I will give you two examples
Kandiyapitawewa, never heard village, not found in google, become a model after Shilpa Sayura implemented in there Telecenter. Now Kandiyapitawewa is a global place , thanks to ICT
Hingurukaduwa Children had never had a chance study study science, english and ICT in their village , now with Shilpa Sayura they are learning Java. and take sceience and math at A/L
Every telecenter contribute towards growth of their society, given resources they will do it perfect
