There are various modes of communications in today’s world. Media plays a significant role in the field of communication. Radio channel is considered as one of the effective media channels since it is vastly used by majority of the people.
Information & Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka has encouraged and supported Nenasalas to establish internet based community radio stations. One of the fine examples is Nenasala located in Ampara district, Sri Lanka which is also known as "Prabhavi Resources Center". Prabhavi Resource Centre is successfully managing a community radio channel named
“Prabhavi Community Radio”. It is said to be one of the first public internet broadcasters in Sri Lanka. Prabhavi is also the first radio station of the Eastern Sri Lanka that has ever broadcasted. With more than two years of experience, Prabhavi Community Radio is now live broadcasting from Ampara, Sri Lanka. By broadcasting from a rural Sri Lankan village, Prabhavi Community Radio is now addressing its community and the whole world with a variety of programs.
One of the successful Nenasala Managers, Mr Udesh Mallikarathana from Rathnapura district in Sri Lanka is also successfully managing a community radio station, named as
“Ransara.lk”. Ransara.lk is broadcasting community news, sports news, weather forecast, entertainment programs, documentary programs, etc. Mr. Mallikarathna says that ‘Ransara.lk’ is popular among his community and during a short time period he has achieved a great success with this community radio channel.
Another Nenasala Manager from Badulla district, Mr Kandeeban is planning to launch a community radio station by the name
“GnanavaVoice.com”. One of the special features of this community radio station is that, it is designed to serve the community (specially the school students) with an educational content. Mr. Kandeeban says that he is in the final stage of his initial preparations to launch the radio station and he is expecting that he will be able to launch the radio station within the next month.
