Tc.org had brought a dozen of key attainments to UgaBYTES:
Frist, through the partnership and relationship, UgaBYTES initiated the East African Telecentre Leaders Froums from which 4 national Telecentre networks in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania were inspired and mentored to grow in additionally to the platform acting as a space to charting and chating regional telecentre problems, successes and progress. The platform also supported the establishment of a regional telecentre academy and the sudan national telecentre academy.
Secondly, the partnership also strengthened UgaBYTES mailing list growing it from 69 member in 2005 to 629 members now. And during this period over 800 discussion topics have been articulated by telecentre people from Asia, Africa, Americas and Europe on the mailing.
Thirdly, the partnership emerged the Telecentre Times 2006, which has since published 565 telecentre stories coming from 40 countries across the world and publishing 42,000 copies in 12 issues that were distributed globally. The online version of the Times being visited by 759 people originating from 81 countries and spending av. 3.25 minutes on the Times. And through the relations other language Times have been started - Arabic, French, Spanish thus showing the power of networking.
Fourthly, tc.org supported numerous of network services that help UgaBYTES support a number of telecentre services including online helpdesk (Q&A), knowledeg sharing, technical computer and network maintenance, staff exchange... some of these service have been done in Uganda, East Africa and some small parts of other African Telecentres.
Fifthly, support for network leaders' staff exchange, telecentre staff exchange and through other out of the country and region learning travel grants.
Sixthly, tc.org supported UgaBYTES in developing its' strategic plan for the year 2006/9, which has driven much of UgaBYTES investments. It also facilitated working relationships between African networks and UgaBYTES and tc.org staff, which have helped improve the expertise levels of UgaBYTES staff.
The most amazing symptom of UgaBYTES relations with tc,org can be seen in the reach of UgaBYTES webiste. During the planning period ending (2006/09), the website was visited by 12,038 absolutely unique peoples from 164 countries. Considering that the world has about 194 countries, this was a great partnership that extended co-existence with the broader telecentre ecosystem.
The on-line consultations are very important to plan for the future of Telecentre.org….we first thanks and appreciate for IDRC, ,,, Telecentre.org and its partners their great support for this community movement. … we should think on the sustainability of our Telecentre and how we move them from community Telecentre to knowledge (development) Telecentre and what is the possibility of investing in these Telecentres to make them self dependent and sustainable..
I think we learn a lot from this great network we share experience and best practices with many Telecentres which help us to construct more than ten community development projects and they are really amazing specially if we consider the fact that we start from zero when we attended the first tc-mena forum in Cairo on December 2006 keeping in mind ICT is not part of our culture and not a priority in Sudan but the great support of digital city of Eindhoven and telecentre.org , ugabytes.org and Drishtee and other partners make the dream become true. ... Really sharing is something different…
In the next decade we should concentrate on e-education with a multilingual curriculum and knowledge … we should use the e-education to fight against poverty in our Telecentre and we have to eliminate it in our countries. … we have to establish many national Telecentre academy … we should utilize the partnerships between members in saving time and money to construct telemedicine units,, e-agriculture projects, ,,, tackle the problem of climate change … keeping in minds the 8th millennium development goals of the united nation to facilitate the life of our community and make it more comfortable..
If we look at Telecentre.org portal the idea is excellent but it has been distorted by too many groups than we need this make many of members to reply… thanks… it is a good idea… forward emails but I admit there are many brilliant members and they have a great contribution… these things guided me to an idea we should have maximum 10 to 12 groups which should include the e-services (e-education.. e-health ….etc.).. Telecentre.org should have a focal person in each country and there should be a regional group and they meet monthly online with a facilitator to report and there should annual meeting and small meeting in the big conferences like WSIS, e-India, e-Asia …
We should work very hard on partnership (PPP) and get the government and private sector involved in this movement because they will help a lot…. Keep in mind the disadvantage community specially the disabled (people with special needs),, prisoners ,, poor orphans and students,, women because working with is very essential and it is a humanitarian issue…Training.. Capacity building..Technical support is important issues.
Finally we hope that Telecentre.org will be the network that connect the whole world
The telecentre.org gave an international color to our local network. This contributed to bringing about much heightened interest and enthusiasm among our members particularly those in the grassroots. And being exposed to international knowledge in the area of CeC/telecentre development and management, they became more inspired to actively participate in the movement.
These are local champions from different countries, who, regardless of their educational status and personal circumstances, have dared to do something different to empower themselves, their organizations, and the communities around them.
It is interesting to learn how to make computer learning accessible to the poor especially those who only had a few years of primary education and are adults, especially the women.
A location managed by Ugabytes and supported by telecentre.org, where members can ask questions or provide responses to telecentre management, content & service development, training, technical, fundraising or evaluation issues.
Also, we might want to say that the position is based in Delhi (preferably)... if we fail to find a candidate from Delhi, we might look for one in Manila.
cheers
Shadrach
