Networks give people managing grassroots telecentres the raw materials they need to succeed: training, support, marketing and technology. They also help them learn and innovate together so that they can put technology to use to develop the communities they serve. More broadly, networks strengthen the entire telecentre ecosystem — acting as connectors between key players as well as sustaining relationships among telecentre leaders, researchers, and development partners.

Through our social investment program, telecentre.org supports network activities in more than 70 countries that make networks, and the telecentres they work with, stronger, more sustainable and more numerous. These activities include:

  • Institutional development — identifying key activities and helping determine the most appropriate organizational, governance, and sustainability model.
  • Developing or improving services — assistance developing social enterprise ideas and identifying government, NGO, and private sector products and services that telecentres can deliver.
  • Strategic planning — business planning, partnership development, and fundraising.
  • Event support or sponsorship — focused on events that help coordinate and strengthen national or regional telecentre initiatives, telecentre.org assists with agenda or session development; facilitates, promotes, and documents events; and, provides strategies to leverage post-event enthusiasm and connections.
  • Travel grants and staff exchange programs — funding for those who build channels for sharing innovative practices, provide peer support, and develop collaborative projects.

Since our launch in 2005, telecentre.org has supported the creation, development and work of nearly 50 networks representing hundreds of thousands of telecentres on the ground. Through online networking opportunities and our investment in nearly 100 face-to-face events, we've gathered a community people and organizations from around the world who believe telecentres have an important role to play in development.

Are you a network? Consider joining the community. Want to create or strengthen a network? We'd love to hear from you.  Contact Meddie Mayanja to learn more.
