Sulah,
By no means did I mean to recommend a single financing mechanism, so sorry for the confusion. By all means TCF, like many NFP organizations or networks, even accounting for the cost-free benefits of the web age, will still need a variety of…
Jimmy, a TC dedicated bank is a good idea... however, why wouldn't the World Bank and the developing country governments that borrow from the World Bank, fund programs to eradicate the digital divide? In the 90's The World Bank started infoDev... st…
I deeply agree with you Polly... it would be wonderful if TCF had an endowment then membership fees would not needed... When I approached a big donor recently to consider an endowment for GKP - arguing instant and guaranteed financial sustainability…
Thks Ian for this well rounded argument. I imagine that if UK needs media education, you can see how deep the problem is in most developing countries. It gives plenty toTCF to think about in their future programming. I thought BBC did a good job dur…
Hi Niranjan,
Focusing on membership fee structure, here are a few ideas for consideration:
In GKP we use the "Friends" category to include every individual interested in the GKP network with basic service free. TCF individual members (or friends)…
I have a few ideas about leadership and knowledge. Since knowledge is an expanding resource when it is shared (contrary to financial and physical resources which get depleted with use), we need grassroots networks to disseminate knowledge to the hav…
Kiringai Kamau's reply inspires me to make two points: 1)Indeed, I see no contribution here from African government representatives. They have a duty to participate. TCF should promotes its on-line consultations to the public sector - what has been…
I fully agree with the relevance of Polly's probing question: "what does TCF want to do with its influence?" Her own answer: "concentrate on being the leading voice of the telecentre (and other community ICTs) movement" is a compelling one! I share…
I think Jimmy's suggestion is right on! As an elected Executive Committee Member of GKP, I can say that GKP is strongly interested in exploring such affiliations as you suggest. We have already informally and bilaterally agreed with GAID and WITFOR…

Hell Jan. Thank you for reminding me of a very important point: it is not the network's sustainability that matters, but the sustainability of the work of a community of practice! I find it easy however to equate the sustainability of a good practic…
Hello Alain, thank you for this great resource. I took a quick glance at it but need to digest it further. The power of a social network is to be inclusive and engage members in a community of practise. It is inherently emergent and subject to chang…
Our current on-line consultations are important, democratic, inclusive and effective. It means that tc.org cares about its audience and respect its stakeholders. I believe the discussions would be even more relevant if the sustainability of tc.org o…
