About Me (biography and organization description)
Ms. Beaver is the Grant Development Manager for the Nutrition Research Consortium (NRC) at the South Carolina Research Authority and is responsible for developing funding opportunities for the projects and programs of the NRC. Ms. Beaver works with nutrition researchers from Clemson University, the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina to build collaborative research partnerships around a broad variety of nutrition research topics, ranging from agricultural and biotechnology developments to issues related to food science, public health, community-based nutrition education, and health care delivery.
Ms. Beaver earned her Master’s Degree in Health Promotion and Education (1989), Associate Degree in Nursing, and Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts (1974), all from Purdue University. As a graduate instructor/director of the Emergency Care Program for the Department of Health and Kinesiology (Purdue University), she supervised graduate students, taught health courses, and trained over 1,000 American Red Cross rescuers annually; in 1992 she received the department’s “Excellence in Teaching Award.” She received a Purdue research grant to examine emergency care workers treatment of AIDS patients in emergency settings. She has published articles about AIDS research/treatment, cardiology and emergency services, and emergency first aid student and instructor manuals. Previous volunteer positions include member of the Board of Directors for the Employer Health Network (St. Louis, MO); President of the Greater Lafayette Safety Council (building the largest chapter membership to date in the State of Indiana); member of the National American Red Cross’ Special Projects Allocations Committee (which awarded over $2 million in grant funds to American Red Cross chapters nationwide); Chair of the American Red Cross Indiana State Service Council; and member of the Eli Lilly and Company Community Advisory Board (Tippecanoe Laboratories).
Prior to joining the NRC, Ms. Beaver worked as Assistant Director of Bindley Bioscience Center at Purdue University’s Discovery Park, where she helped manage start-up operations and research development activities for Purdue’s new multi-disciplinary biotechnology research center (2004-2008). She is a registered nurse with 25 years of diverse program management experience in health care, business development, quality assurance, customer service, teaching, public relations and marketing.

Under the direction of the executive director and scientific leadership of the Nutrition Research Consortium, Ms. Beaver manages day-to-day operations, builds collaborative effectiveness, and identifies potential project sponsorship opportunities. She provides technical support in the writing, preparation and submission of NRC grant proposals submitted through SCRA in partnership with university research teams.
