
With the guidance and assistance given by Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) Nenasala (National Telecentre Network) participates at the “Deyata Kirula” exhibition organised under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and held at Pallekele, Kandy from 04th of February to 10th February 2010.
Deyata Kirula is an annual National Development Exhibition of Sri Lanka which is inaugurated coinciding with the 62nd Commemoration of Independence Day. The exhibition is held for the 4th consecutive time. The aim of the exhibition is to portray Sri Lankan heritage and pride, and to impart knowledge to the public on the development schemes undertaken under the Mahinda Chinthana: election manifesto of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The exhibition also seeks to inspire future generation to actively participate towards development activities by educating them on the Government’s development programs and its objectives in the economic, social and cultural fields. Further Deyata Kirula Exhibition conveys to the public details regarding development activities in the country over the past 4 years. The exhibition is also a venue for the international community to obtain the said details. Declaring open the exhibition at the International Buddhist Centre premises in Pallekele in Kandy last evening, the president said the exhibition also displays the future development model of the government. He said the exhibition which is held this year in a location out of Colombo for the first time will also be taken to other cities as well. The exhibition is open for the public from 9.00 am to 12.00 midnight.
The 'Nenasala stall at the 'Deyata Kirula' exhibition show how the Nenasalas bring the dividends of ICT to all and in particular to the remotest villager. Among the many attractions in the exhibition, Nenasala stall gathered thousands of people who visited the exhibition premises from around the country. Therefore, the Nenasala stall at the exhibition which is expected to attract about 4 million people is an ideal opportunity for anyone to see for themselves the facilities available at the 600 Nenasalas established island-wide.
The Nenasala stall at the exhibition is managed by the Nenasalas located in Kandy district. Specially Nenasala Theldeniya and Nenasala Hurikaduwa play a major role in coordination with rest of the Nenasala centres in Kandy district. Nandama Madugalla, Nenasala Manager- Theldeniya Nenasala speaking about the Nenasala stall in Deyata Kirula said, “We thank ICTA for giving this opportunity to showcase Nenasala services to the community. We are highly motivated to perform our best at this stall and make the public aware on the ICT services that they can obtain at a Nenasala centre. As the exhibition is open for the general public from 9.00 am to 12.00 midnight, it is really appreciated, Nenasala operators and managers in Kandy district have voluntarily come forward to support the Nenasala stall on shift basis with the short notice that we have given.”
Suresh Gamage, Nenasala operator- Hurikaduwa Nenasala noted “We have equipped our stall with computers, connectivity, local content CDs etc. for make it possible for the visitor to experiment for himself / herself exactly what they can obtain in any Nenasala. We can see that most people are really interested in ICT services and they come to us looking for further information. We, together with our co- staff successfully managing the stall and we are confident that we will be able to bring more people in our respective Nenasala centres in future as we are making the public aware on the ICT services at Nenasalas”.
