Last December 11, institutional partners of the
telecenter.org-Philippine Community eCenter Academy or tPCA met one last time before closing a very fruitful and successful year. Said meeting held at the Philippine Commission of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) in Quezon City was followed by a victory cum yuletide celebration at the same venue.
The year has seen the development and adoption of the academy’s charter and the national competency standard for Community eCenter (or telecentre) knowledge workers (NCS-CeC), two milestone documents that set the direction of the academy and its future activities. Members of the academy’s board of trustees were also elected in that meeting. With the election, the tPCA is more than ready to go full gear in the coming year.
The meeting was made doubly special with the participation of tPCA’s international partner, telecenter.org, in the person of Dr. Basheerhamad Shadrach who congratulated the tPCA and its mother network PhilCeCNet for being one of telecentre.org’s rising stars in terms of achievements. Dr. Shadrach likewise briefed the partners on the status of the Global Telecentre Academy initiative and exhorted the partners to not only play an active role locally but globally as well.
The meeting confirmed the entry of two new institutions into the consortium’s roster of partners namely the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Philippine Council of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD). Both agencies are actively involved in the Philippine Community eCenter movement and are expected to lend their expertise and resources in support of the academy as well.
The tPCA is the training arm of
PhilCeCNet and is a consortium of ICT4D capacity building and content development institutions. It was established a year ago with the following as founding partners: Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC), Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Intel Technology Philippines (Intel), International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Microsoft Philippines Incorporated (Microsoft), National Telehealth Center (NThC), Philippine Rice Research Institute - Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (PhilRice-OpAPA), University of the Philippines - Open University (UPOU) and telecentre.org.
