The Community Facilitators in Barcelona

A workshop brought together from 27 to 30 January 2009, at the center Splai in Barcelona (Spain), the facilitators of the various community platforms of exchange and sharing of knowledge dedicated to community telecentres and their environments.

These facilitators platforms French, English, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese. This meeting was organized by IDRC through telecentre.org. The community facilitators who took part in this workshop were from various backgrounds throughout the world (Africa, Europe, America and Asia).

The objectives of this meeting were among others: the creation of a powerful network that could cope with major challenges, the physical contact of community facilitators to assist their online exchanges etc.

For four days, participants discussed the work plan and methodology adopted for doing so, the content should be put on the different platforms of exchange and so on.

This meeting was also a space for self criticism, which allowed the community facilitators to correct some weaknesses in their way of working and also on the platform of work.

The workshop also enabled the community facilitators to discover the telecentre movement in the world, to know and to get an idea about the future of the network of community telecentres.

The workshop had actually started with a summary of telecentre.org ': its purpose, its vision, its way of working etc..
A presentation of some Microsoft products available online was also held during this meeting. A local telecentre (Barcelona) was also visited during this meeting.

We can certainly say that this workshop was a success because the organizers have all expressed their full satisfaction at the end of the work, like Mr. Florencio CEBALLOS ( telecentre.org), one of the facilitators of the meeting. He said: "I am personally very satisfied, because by coming here in Barcelona, it was not obvious, but thanks to the determination of each other it happened. I would like to thank all participants. "

In its role as facilitator of this meeting, Mr. Florencio was accompanied by his colleague from telecentre.org, Mr. Partha.

All participants also expressed their satisfaction at the end of the meeting which confirmed the advantage of success of this meeting of community facilitators in Barcelona.
